Nestled in a small shopping strip is a little gem of a place call The Mug Coffeehouse. A family-owned business, the shop has been open since 2015. Recently, we were camping at the Watkins Mill State Park, and discovered this little slice of java heaven through “Coffee shop near me”. The Mug is located in Excelsior Springs, MO, and not 5 minutes from our campsite.
The coffee is fresh-roasted in house in small batches. Most of the baked goods are also made in house. For the 4 of us, our breakfasts ranged from fancy biscuits and gravy, pastry, donuts, and breakfast sandwiches. All were delicious.
But the real show was the coffee. It was a hot day, so I had an iced latte, Steve the Bike guy had an iced Americano. The coffee use to make our drinks was scrumptious. Our friends DIYJamers and CamperKev opted for hot versions of coffee drinks and commented they were also delicious. The menu also offered creative hot and iced coffee-based and non coffee-based selections.
The Mug offers indoor and outdoor seating. It’s not a large space, but enough for several tables for hanging out and enjoying coffees and treats. There are chargers for phones on each table. There is also a drive through. The Mug also offers activities such as Cars and Coffee in the parking lot, Second Friday, Meet and Eat events, and Coffee with a Cop.
Would I go back? Of course! We’ve already been there 3 times over the last two Watkins Mill camping excursions. And we look forward to another trip in the future.
